A Special Story for My Clients and Students:

I have clients all over the world.  You know who you are.  A friend checked out my client list recently and thoughtfully said, 'You know, you have clients on every continent except Antarctica.'  I corrected him.  One of my students recently served duty in a weather station there.  "Does that count, I asked him? I don't think anyone actually livesthere!"

I use many tools in my work, all skills I teach to anyone who cares to learn.  My very first tool as a professional reader was the tarot. I still use it today.  I love the cards.  I've been teaching others how to read the tarot since 1979. Anyone can learn to read the tarot.  In fact, the tarot is a tool that teaches you to use your psychic abilities.   Now my tarot classes are available online.  I am very excited to finally be able to teach anyone in the world who wants to learn, how to read the tarot. 

So, as I was thinking about this online class and the impact that I know it will have on so many who want to learn the tarot, I quite naturally began to think back to past tarot classes I've taught in person.  One woman and her story jumped to the foreground of my memory.  I'd like to share her story with you.  I know she won’t mind, as it is sure to help someone.

I can't mention her name though, because the woman whose story I am about to tell you is now a very well-known and highly respected tarot reader and psychic.  So, if you don't mind, I'll make up a name.  Let's call her Mary. 

I met Mary in 1983 when I was teaching in New York.  She was a quiet, shy woman.  Slender and pretty, with a sweet smile.  When the other students did practice readings on her she always agreed but never gave any feedback.  Mary was a mystery.  She had a gentleness that made the other students really pay attention when she did her practice readings on them.  I could tell that learning to read the tarot was very important to her.

She always showed up exactly on time, and left precisely on the hour, even if the class ran over a few minutes.  She listened with such intensity that it surprised me when she would leave before the class ended.  That was my first clue that all was not as it should be.

Mary had to miss a class once.  She had a girlfriend, the same girlfriend who would drive her to class and pick her up, call to let me know.  I assumed Mary didn't drive...next week when I saw Mary at class, she kept her sunglasses on.  I knew something was up, but didn't push for an explanation.

Mary finished the classes and a few weeks later her girlfriend called to book a reading with me for Mary.  As usual her girlfriend drove her to my home, and picked her up later.  During her reading the mystery surrounding Mary was unveiled. 

As you have probably surmised, Mary was in an abusive marriage.  Her husband, a disabled and always angry man, physically abused her and their three children.  He kept tight control over the family's finances and held everything in his own name.  He had stripped Mary of everything and everyone in her life so that she could not leave and be able to survive on her own, let alone take her children with her.  He was a jealous, possessive, abusive and controlling man.

Mary could drive, but there was only one car, and he kept the car keys on his person.  He gave her no money of her own.  He wouldn't let Mary work, visit her family, or go out of the house except to buy groceries once a week.  When Mary came to my classes, she told her husband she was going grocery shopping with her one and only friend, who was their neighbor.  She paid for her classes and her cards with money squeezed from the grocery money her husband gave her and had saved up long before she came to her first class.  Her friend would drop her at my class, go and do Mary's shopping, and then come and pick her up to take her home.  What a wonderful friend.

Mary's goal in taking my tarot classes was to develop skill in something that was more than a life-long interest; it was also her ticket to freedom.  Mary hid her cards from her husband who never left the house.  She practiced in the middle of the night when he was asleep.  All by herself she practiced all I'd taught her until she felt ready to do a real reading.

Again, her girlfriend came to the rescue.  She put an ad in the paper for Mary, and took the calls.  She set up Mary's first appointment.  She took Mary 'grocery shopping' and dropped Mary off at her new client's house.  Mary made her own money at last.  She began to save for her freedom.

Once again, her girlfriend came through.  Mary couldn't take the money home.  Her husband would find it.  She opened a checking account in her name and her girlfriend's name, and her girlfriend collected and deposited the money Mary made.

It took Mary five long years of absorbing the physical and emotional blows of her husband, always placing herself between him and her children, before she'd saved up enough money to move out and into her own apartment.  Once she did, she never looked back.

Mary was an accomplished Tarot Reader and Psychic by then.  She made enough money with her skillful reading and guiding of her clients that she was able to support herself and her now high school aged children. She was eventually able to put them through college, and then to go herself.  She paid her friend back, many times over.  Mary lived frugally for a long while, but that was not new to her. Her family thrived.  She walked away from her abusive husband and never looked back.  She was free.

Today Mary is still successfully working as a Tarot Reader and Psychic.  She found her calling, and it brought her to safety and success and ensured the well-being of her beloved children.

So now you know one reason why I love the tarot so.  It not only can help those who come for readings...it can and does help those who give the readings, in many, many ways.
