Psychic Development Tip # 10 - Meditation

This psychic development tip is about meditation.  In several earlier tips I mentioned that mediation is very important in your psychic development, and in fact is it’s cornerstone.  My next few tips will help you to achieve deeper and better meditations and reap all the benefits that go with that.  If you already know how to meditate you may want to skip these, but even experienced meditators may pick up a few good tips!

Meditation involves learning to still your mind and control it, and your thoughts.  Once you really understand that concept, it’s easy to understand why meditation is so important for aspiring psychics, channels and mediums to learn.  After all, we all know now that we create our world with our thoughts!  And in my last few psychic development tips you learned how easy it is for thoughts to be transferred from one person to another (telepathy).  Do you really want to do that unconsciously?  Of course meditation also has a host of other benefits that I’ll touch upon in my next tip.  For now, I want to share a special secret with you about meditation that most beginners and even many experienced people don’t know.

It is next to impossible to meditate if your body is not fully relaxed.

That’s right. And  if you’re uptight mentally, your body is wired too.

So before you meditate, you need to create a state of total relaxation in both your body and your mind.

Meditators use different methods to achieve relaxation before meditation.  Some meditate immediately upon waking, while they are still relaxed from a good night’s sleep.  Other’s meditate immediately following a hard workout or martial arts training, when their physical body is spent and their mind is already single focused from the workout.  Often students of Yogic style meditation will begin their meditation with a mantra, by singing a word or phrase such as ‘OM’  over and over again.  The phrase repetition and sound vibration soothes and relaxes the mind and the body follows. Alternate nostril breathing, described in many Yoga books as well as in my own Psychic Development Level 1 book is also often used to relax mind and body by over oxygenating the mind and creating a ‘high’ feeling.  Some meditation leaders use guided visualizations to cleanse and relax both body and mind before moving on to a quiet still mind meditation.  My own favorite, that I teach in my classes, is progressive relaxation.  This is probably the most commonly used means of relaxing the mind and body, taught in health classes, yoga classes, exercise classes, even hypnosis classes as it is indeed a form of self-hypnosis.

There are many variations on progressive relaxation.  Some instructors teach a one to three countdown.  This is common when taught by a hypnotherapist.  My favorite is a one to ten countdown.  Some versions start with the feet and work up.  I prefer to start with the head and work down to the feet, because that relaxes the mind first.

Here’s the progressive relaxation I use.  I say the number, then the body part I associate it with, then the words, “relax, let go, sleep” three times before I move on to the next part.
    1- head and face
    2 - mind and brain
    3 - neck and shoulders
    4 - back
    5 - upper torso
    6 - lower torso
    7 - legs
    8 - feet
    9 - arms and hands
10 - say 10, 10, 10, body and mind, completely relaxed and at ease.

And now you are ready to meditate, and achieve the deepest most refreshing meditation you’ve ever done!
